Pool, England, 1965. Lives and works in Madrid.
Trough diverse formal and thematic techniques, Smith has done a multiple aesthetic exploration of the Mexican megalopolis. Her work that comes from the daily life, refers to visual structures derived from the culture of the capitalist globalization of the so called third world: street commerce, the logo invasion, advertisements, visual stimulants, etc.
The fact that the majority of her work comes from a dialogue with Mexico City, even when she moves to other territories, leads us to understand her work as a complex plot of historic, visual and commercial forces, formulated in relation to colors, materials, patterns and objects.
