Daniel Lezama

Mexico City 1968. Lives and works in Mexico city.

The first impression that Daniel Lezama’s big oil works produces, is an unequivocal reference to the great pictorial academies. The second brings us back to our present time and space as we see a dramatic fiction told in an everyday scenario. On the third: we observe a montage of meanings taken into multiple reading levels and of emotional reference.

This is the great-imagined drama of marginality and human necessity were the painter re-configures the images and the symbolic emblems of his personal and communitarian identity. Carnality, indifference, tenderness, and fatality meet in his characters forming a heresy for the contemporary mass media sensibility. Under the ambiguous form of primordial dramas or allegories, his work conforms a non-censorship file of icons and artistic sites, witnesses of the confrontation of the Mexican identity.
