Colima, México, 1968. Lives and works in Mexico City.
His main interest consists on exploring the personal and cultural identity as well as exploring subjects like originality, the subnormal, the memory, the portrait and the body. In his work we find games between dichotomies such as figurative and abstraction, baroque and minimalist, innocence and cruelty, the traditional and the experimental. The line and the dialogue between drawing and sculptured, the bidimension and tri-dimension are fundamental elements in his work.
Gabriel de la Mora while drawing and intervening objects with hair a material charged with cultural meaning- has been able to create his work about the portrait and the contemporary corpus. In his drawings he uses real human or animal hair, as well as synthetic hair used as contrast and color. The hair is collected from different donations- then registered and kept in glass bottles, forming an unusual collection that works as a piece and archive and that also has practical use.
