The unfolding of photography, and reflective exercises regarding light and time are elements that appear as recurrent patterns in Bonillas' work. These, along with an aesthetic archive-like structure has resulted in pieces of personal and introspective content such as: Todas las fotografías verticales de los archivos de J.R. Plaza, documentadas fotográficamente (2004), an essay on the photographic archive of J.R. Plaza, his grandfather, and also an enthusiast of photography.

His exercises, strongly multidisciplinary, have become emphatically analytic and aesthetic discourses on the concept of photography, as the aural piece “10 cámaras documentadas acústicamente”, a work in which 10 different records labeled by brand and camera model, contain 10 and 12 tracks that record the sound made by the camera at the moment a shot is taken.
